Policies

Welcome to our nursery, a warm and nurturing place where children are encouraged to explore, play, and grow at their own pace. We care for children from 6 months to 5 years, offering a gentle transition from home to early education. Our doors are open Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, giving families flexible options that fit around busy lives.

Our approach is child-centred and play-based. We believe children learn best when they feel safe, loved and listened to. Our experienced team builds strong, trusting relationships with every child, taking time to understand their interests, personalities and needs. Daily routines are calm and predictable, helping children feel secure while still leaving plenty of room for curiosity and fun.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do. Our rooms and outdoor spaces are carefully set up to be safe, welcoming and age-appropriate, with close supervision at all times. Clear policies guide how we keep children healthy, manage allergies and medication, and respond calmly and quickly if a child is unwell or upset. We use simple, positive behaviour guidance to help children learn kindness, respect and self-confidence.

Our safeguarding and wellbeing policies are written in plain language and are there to protect every child. All staff are trained to recognise and respond to concerns, and we work closely with families so that you always know what is happening and why. Our early education plans follow recognised early years guidance, but we explain everything in parent-friendly terms and share regular updates on your child’s progress, so you can feel informed, involved and reassured every step of the way.

Our Nursery Policies & What They Mean Day to Day

Safeguarding & Child Protection

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every child in our care in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework. All staff are subject to enhanced DBS checks, receive regular safeguarding training, and follow clear procedures for identifying and reporting concerns. We operate robust safeguarding policies, secure entry systems, and maintain appropriate supervision at all times. No unauthorised person is permitted unsupervised access to children.

We work in partnership with parents and external agencies where necessary to ensure children's safety and well-being. Concerns relating to a child's welfare will be acted upon in accordance with statutory guidance and referred to the appropriate safeguarding agencies where required.

Parents are required to provide accurate and relevant information regarding their child's well-being, including any concerns from home, use agreed collection passwords where applicable, and inform the nursery of any injuries or incidents occurring outside of the setting. The nursery is legally required to act in the best interests of the child, which may include sharing information with safeguarding partners where appropriate.

Health & Safety

We maintain a safe, secure, and suitably risk-assessed environment in line with EYFS welfare requirements. Regular risk assessments are carried out across all indoor and outdoor areas, resources, and activities. Appropriate staff-to-child ratios are maintained at all times, and children are supervised according to their age and stage of development.

Staff are trained in paediatric first aid and follow clear procedures for fire safety, emergency evacuation, and accident reporting. Fire drills are practised regularly and recorded in line with regulatory requirements.

Parents are required to keep emergency contact and medical information up to date, provide appropriate clothing for weather and activities, and follow all security procedures at drop-off and collection. Children should not bring unsafe or inappropriate items into the setting.

Illness & Medication

We follow strict infection control procedures to protect all children and staff. Children must not attend nursery if they are unwell or present symptoms of contagious illness and must observe exclusion periods in line with public health guidance.

If a child becomes unwell during the day, parents or carers will be contacted and asked to collect them promptly. Medication will only be administered where written parental consent has been provided and the medication is in its original packaging with clear instructions. The first dose of any new medication will not be administered at our nursery.

All medication administered is recorded in accordance with policy requirements.

Parents are required to inform the nursery of any illnesses, infections, or diagnosed medical conditions, and to follow exclusion guidance to prevent the spread of illness.

Behaviour Management

We promote positive behaviour through praise, encouragement, clear boundaries, and age-appropriate expectations. Our approach supports children in developing respect, empathy, and self-regulation.

Physical punishment, shouting, or any form of degrading or humiliating treatment is not permitted. Staff support children to understand boundaries and manage emotions appropriately.

Parents are encouraged to share any relevant information that may affect behaviour and to work in partnership with staff to ensure consistent approaches between home and nursery.

Equal Opportunities & Inclusion

We are committed to providing an inclusive environment where every child and family is treated with respect and valued equally, regardless of background, ability, culture, language, or beliefs.

We promote equality of opportunity in line with the Equality Act 2010 and adapt practice to meet individual needs where required. Where additional support is needed, we work in partnership with parents and external professionals to ensure appropriate provision is in place.

Parents are encouraged to share relevant information about their child's needs, cultural practices, or beliefs to support inclusive practice.

Admissions & Settling-In

Admissions are managed fairly and transparently in accordance with our admissions criteria and availability of places.

We offer settling-in sessions to support a gradual transition into nursery life. Each child is allocated a key person who is responsible for supporting their care, development, and emotional well-being, and for building strong relationships with families.

Parents will receive clear information regarding start dates, routines, and requirements prior to commencement.

Parents are expected to complete all necessary documentation accurately and support settling-in procedures, including agreed short separation routines to support children's emotional adjustment.

Fees & Payments

All fees, funding arrangements, and additional charges are clearly communicated prior to admission. Invoices are issued in accordance with agreed payment schedules.

Parents are responsible for ensuring fees are paid by the stated deadlines. Notice periods apply for changes to sessions or termination of care, as outlined in our terms and conditions.

Fees remain payable for reserved places, including periods of absence, unless otherwise stated within specific agreements or funding arrangements.

Parents are encouraged to communicate promptly with management if they experience difficulty with payments so that appropriate arrangements may be discussed.

Data Protection & Confidentiality

We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. All personal data is collected, stored, and processed securely and is only used for legitimate childcare and safeguarding purposes.

Information is shared only with authorised staff and relevant professionals where necessary and on a need-to-know basis, or where required by law.

Parents have the right to access personal data held about their child in accordance with data protection legislation.

Parents must inform the nursery of any changes to personal details, permissions, or medical information and must respect the confidentiality of other children and families.

Complaints Procedure

We welcome feedback and aim to resolve concerns quickly and effectively.

In the first instance, concerns should be raised with the child's key person or the nursery manager. If a satisfactory resolution cannot be reached, the matter will be escalated in line with our formal complaints procedure, which includes clear investigation and response timescales.

Where required, parents may contact external regulatory bodies such as Ofsted.

We expect all concerns to be raised respectfully and allow time for proper investigation to ensure a fair and appropriate outcome for all parties.

Accessing Our Nursery Policies

Parents can view our full policy documents at any time. The latest versions are available to download via the "Policy" link below, and printed copies are kept at the nursery reception for you to read or request to take home. All policies are formally reviewed at least once a year, and sooner if there are changes in legislation, guidance, or our internal procedures.

When a policy is updated, we will notify parents via email and our family communication app, and we will display a summary of key changes on the noticeboard in reception. Updated PDFs will replace older versions online, and the review date will be clearly shown on the front page of each document so you can easily check you are reading the most current version. If you would like a translated or large-print copy, please let us know and we will be happy to arrange this.
